TWI section manager, Dr Matthew Doré has been elected to become a Fellow of The Welding Institute (FWeldI).

Fellow Membership of The Welding Institute is reserved for esteemed professionals who have substantial experience in their field. This level of membership is typically awarded in recognition of personal contributions within the engineering community.

Dr Doré joined TWI in October 2000, where he worked in the Fatigue Section. Since 2017, he has been the Section Manager of the Fatigue and Fracture Integrity Management Section. He completed a PhD through the Open University under the supervision of Dr Stephen Maddox, focusing on, ‘An Investigation of Fatigue Crack Growth Acceleration.’

Matthew has led a variety of consultancy projects for a broad range of industries and specialises in fatigue design and fatigue life improvement. Principal project areas have included the assessment of offshore structures, structural integrity of bridges, and the fatigue life improvement of welded high-strength steels and welded aluminium alloys. He has authored conference and journal publications on fatigue under variable amplitude loading for steel and aluminium alloys, as well as fatigue life extension, focusing primarily on high-frequency mechanical impact treatment, and various fracture mechanics studies.

Matthew has also supervised numerous PhD students at TWI, primarily in the area of additive manufacturing.

Since 2016, Matthew has been a British Standards Institute Main Committee Member, as well as Chair of BS 7608, Chair of BS 7910 (Fatigue sub-group) and the UK National Delegate for the IIW Commission XIII.

We are delighted that Matthew has been recognised for his work and professional standing with a Fellow Membership of The Welding Institute, which shows the depth of expertise and talent at TWI.
