I joined TWI in 1997 as a Project Leader in the then Arcs and Lasers Section; specifically working in Arc Welding Process research. During this time I successfully completed my EWE diploma, before moving to the Laser and Sheet Processes section of the group where I expanded my experience to cover resistance welding processes.

In 2002, I took the position of Welding Engineer in the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering department of Land Rover, where I supported Resistance Welding Process implementation on prototype vehicle builds, and new vehicle production line facilities. I applied much of my experience in process knowledge and procedure development to supporting the launch of the Discovery, Range Rover Sport, Freelander; and most recently the Jaguar XJ vehicles.

Having spent 7 years in industry, in 2009 I took the opportunity to return to TWI as Principal Project Leader in the Laser and Sheet Processes group, to work in a research and consultancy role. During this time I set up a UK ‘Automotive Welding Engineers Forum’, where representatives from a number of automotive companies, including Jaguar Land Rover, meet to discuss current manufacturing issues, and plan future projects and collaborations within the industry.

Most recently, at the beginning of 2011 I returned to my original ‘home’ of the Arc-processes and Welding Engineering as Section Manager. I now lead a team of engineers with a wide range of expertise across all industry sectors in one of the most successful and busiest sections within TWI. I enjoy the diversity of projects and companies we support at TWI, together with a great working environment. My previous time at TWI and living in the Cambridge area made the decision to return an easy one, particularly with a new recent addition to my family who is also now enjoying living in this part of the country.
