Low Carbon Energy - Manufacturing Technology Centre

TWI focuses its new technologies for the energy sector, in the North East of England, at Middlesbrough to provide a base for supporting regional and international manufacturing industries improve competitiveness in existing and emerging low carbon energy markets.

The new centre networks with the rest of TWI and has unique facilities that will develop and demonstrate world class materials, joining and engineering solutions to companies large and small.

The centre aims, with its innovative developments, to help companies:

  • reduce fabrication costs
  • increase production rates
  • reduced time to market
  • enhance durability
  • reduce in service maintenance
This will be achieved by supporting companies through involvement in:

  • innovation
  • research and development
  • prototyping
  • demonstration
  • supply chain assistance
  • technology transfer
  • underpinning workforce skills training and qualification

The Low Carbon Energy – Manufacturing Technology Centre is part-financed by the European Union’s ERDF Competitiveness Programme 2007-13, securing £1.7m ERDF investment through regional development agency One North East.
