Sayee Raghunathan Sayee Raghunathan CEng, SENMWeldI, MIOMMM, CertEWE - joined TWI in 2005 in the Manufacturing Support Group as a Senior Welding Engineer to provide welding engineering and fabrication consultancy services to Industrial Members of TWI. Areas of expertise include: welding process application, welding and weldability of a wide range of materials, welding specifications, standards application, production engineering and quality control and assurance.
Sayee currently manages the Manufacturing Support Group. He is an active member of the oil and gas industry sector team at TWI and is a participant on the Pipeline PTC and API-AGA 1104 committee and the ASME SCIX committee.
Geert Verhaege Geert Verhaege Dr Ing, EngD, Cert EWE, CEng, MSc, SENMWeldI - joined TWI in 1996 where, as a Senior Project Leader in the Arc Welding Group first and later in the Laser Welding Group, he has managed a variety of projects on a range of arc and laser welding processes and applications. He has gained specific experience in the welding of aluminium, the use of robotics and automation for welding, weld distortion and hybrid laser-arc processing. He has particular involvement with projects for the road transport and aerospace industry sector.
Geert currently manages the Arc Process, Fabrication and Welding Engineering (AFWE) section in the Manufacturing Support Group.
Geoff Melton Geoff Melton Eur Ing, MBA, CEng, CPhys, SenMWeldI, MInstP first joined TWI in 1979 as a research engineer in the Control Engineering Support Group. He left TWI in 1987 to work for a welding equipment and consumable manufacturer in management, development and technical support roles. He rejoined TWI in 1999 and is now a consultant in the AFWE section in the Manufacturing Support Group. Areas of expertise include: welding process development, automation, equipment, weld monitoring and health and safety. He is also the Chairman of the British (WEE/6) and European (CENELEC TC26A) Committees for standardisation of arc welding equipment.
Simon Pike Simon Pike BEng ARSM MWeldI EWT IEng - joined TWI in 2007 after completing a degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Imperial College London. Simon currently works in the Arc Processes, Fabrication and Welding Engineering (AFWE) section of TWI in the Manufacturing Support Group. Since joining TWI he has been involved in a wide range of projects relating to the development and application of arc welding process technology and welding engineering: high productivity welding of titanium alloys, simulated repair welding for nickel super alloys, site testing of a CCGT power station and design reviews for nuclear waste containers. Simon is also the secretary of the Welding Processes Technical Group for the Welding and Joining society.
Dave Howse Dave Howse EngD, CEng, BEng, SenMWeldI, MIM, Cert EWE - joined TWI in 1994 and currently works in the Arcs Process, Fabrication and Welding Engineering Group as a Consultant Welding Engineer. Support provided by the group to a worldwide industrial membership includes consultancy, troubleshooting, research and development, equipment build and training.
Dave has specialist knowledge in relation to a wide range of arc and laser welding processes and their practical suitability and application, use of processes for a wide range of industrial sectors and is familiar with most international fabrication codes and practices. Dave has a degree in Metallurgy from the University of Leeds and an Engineering Doctorate from the University of Warwick.
Dave Godfrey Dave Godfrey Eur Ing CEng, SenMWeldI, Cert EWE, ISO 3834 - lead assessor - joined TWI in 2004 following many years as a welding engineer in a broad range of industrial sectors.
Since joining TWI he has managed specialist repair projects in nuclear, petro chemical and cement production and has carried out productivity reviews for a range of small and medium sized companies.
Dave is a member of BSI committee for welder and procedure qualification, and is Lead Assessor for ISO 3834 certification.
Vinod Kumar Vinod Kumar PhD, CEng, SenMWeldI, MIMechE - graduated in mechanical engineering with honours in 1989 and joined Indian Space Research Organisation where he worked as a Scientist/Engineer for 12 years mainly in the area of fabrication, welding and heat treatment of aerospace hardware. Came to UK in 2001 to study for PhD in Engineering at the University of Cambridge. In 2004, he joined in the Welding Engineering Research Centre at Cranfield University as a Research Officer where he worked until he moved to TWI in March 2006
Colin Eileens Colin Eileens Ieng, MWeldI, EWT, 3.2 CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector - joined TWI 1978 as a welder, working on a range of projects using arc welding processes, both manual and automated. Colin was also responsible for the manufacture of defect specimens for UKAEA. He then progressed to the Welding Engineer - Advisory Section dealing with welding enquiries from TWI's Industrial Members.
Colin left TWI in 1986 and returned in 1995 as Welding Instructor and Programme Manager for TWI's welder training activities. He transferred to the Arc-Processes, fabrication and Welding Engineering section in December 2008.
Marcello Consonni Marcello Consonni CEng, SenMWeldI, Cert EWE/IWE - joined TWI in 2006 as a Project Leader in the Fracture Integrity Management Section, since then he has been involved in a variety of structural integrity projects, engineering critical assessments and failure investigations. In 2009, Marcello transferred to the Arc-Processes, Fabrication and Welding section of TWI where he has been involved in various welding technical support projects. Marcello has specialist knowledge in relation to mechanical testing, ferrous metallurgy, welding engineering and fracture mechanics, as well as Engineering Critical Assessment (ECA). Prior to coming to TWI, Marcello worked for four years as a materials engineer and mechanical/metallographic test lab manager for an Italian pressure vessels manufacturer, serving the Nuclear Power and the Oil&Gas sectors. Marcello has also lectured in metallurgy for professional courses
Runlin Zhou Runlin Zhou MEng MPhil (Cantab) AMIMechE - graduated in 2005 with MEng degree in Materials Engineering at Imperial College London and subsequently obtained his MPhil degree from the University of Cambridge in Industrial System, Manufacturing and Management in 2006. Runlin gained his industrial experiences as a Lead Materials Engineer for over three years with a major EPC contractor for the oil and gas industry before joining TWI in 2009. Runlin has specialist knowledge in relation to materials, welding & inspection technologies used for cryogenic storage tanks and terminal facilities and gained extensive industrial experiences particularly in the design, engineering and construction of large scale LNG storage tanks and terminals.
His work at TWI entails development and application of arc welding processes and welding engineering that benefit a wide range of industrial sectors. His current projects focus on improving joint integrity and welding productivity of CRA clad pipes and subsea pipeline constructions.
Bill Lucas Bill Lucas Prof, CEng, FWeldI, Fellow Institute of Materials, EWE - joined TWI in 1970 and is currently a consultant. After 16 years in process research, he became Head of the Arc Welding Department in 1986. In 1987, he became the first research engineer at TWI to be awarded Doctor of Science for his contribution to arc welding and computer technology. He has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Liverpool since 1997.
His research work has been largely devoted to process development and application studies in welding and cutting and the production of modelling, expert systems and multimedia packages. Current research concerns sensor technology including novel vision based systems. 114 of his papers have been published. He has been Programme Manager of several National and European collaborative projects. He was awarded the Sir William Larke medal in 1984 and 2002, he became a Fellow of the Welding Institute and of the Institute of Metals in 1983, a Chartered Engineer and a European Welding Engineer in 1993. He is Chairman of IIW Commission XII, 'Arc Welding Processes and Production Systems'.
Rita Banks Rita Banks - joined TWI in 1986 as an office typist in the Accounts Department, giving support to others in her section. In 1997 Rita moved to Business Development and then as a Team Secretary with the Electron Beam Department in 2000. Rita has worked for numerous people in the technical field and is currently working as Group Secretary and Administrator for the Arc Processes, Fabrication and Welding Engineering (AFWE) section.
