TWI starts AMP development

TWI Ltd has begun construction of new research facilities on the Advanced Manufacturing Park at Waverley that will house materials joining facilities and technologists, bringing over 50 years of materials joining expertise closer to organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The £2.5m investment will result in a 1,750m 2 building containing cutting-edge equipment and 35 staff. The capabilities provided will include some of the most advanced joining equipment currently available, including the world's largest friction stir welding research machine and state-of-the-art laser systems.

The company is currently operating from temporary premises on the Dore House Industrial Estate, Orgreave. With construction work currently underway, it is anticipated that the new facility will be completed and fully operational towards the end of 2005.

TWI Technology Awareness Day

Thursday 20 October 2005, TWI, Granta Park

The event will highlight TWI's technology and illustrate how this can be exploited to enhance business performance. Technical presentations and practical demonstrations will be directed to show how quality, performance and integrity can be improved by taking advantage of current materisl joining technology. This will be the first occasion that the new Bevan Braithwaite building has been made available to Industrial Members in this way. The event will also provide a forum for technical exchanges with TWI staff.

An Engineer in Court

Seminar to be held in London on 6 September 2005 sponsored by the IMechE. The first half of this event will provide industrial engineers with best practice in ensuring the highest standards of personal documentation for legal use. The second section will provide informed guidance on the court system and what training is available for those required to go to court.
