TWI has a multidisciplinary team of experts who are specialised in joining technologies for military vehicles and equipment. They are experienced in joining lightweight armour (using composites and alloys) and have developed procedures for the modular fabrication for fast assembly and quick deployment of combat equipment.
Our expertise in the defence sector include welding & joining, from textiles to metals, composites joining, ceramics, surface engineering and mechanical fastening.
The strengths of TWI in this sector are as follows:

TWI has developed innovative joining technologies on its Core Research Programme that are either ready for application in this industrial sector or could be further developed for their commercial exploitation. Over 500 dedicated staff help the military industry and governmental agencies to apply all forms of joining technologies safely and efficiently. TWI undertakes R&D in strict confidence. As a consultant it can offer individual experts or teams able to help solve problems of all kinds related to materials joining. It will send its specialists to most places of the world at short notice on troubleshooting missions.
