Environmental knowledge

Many of TWI's departments work together to keep up to date with a range of environmental legislation on manufacturing, product design and fabrication procedures.

The Manufacturing Support Group (MSG) can help you to understand which legislation applies, which standards to turn to or assist you with practical implementation of the requirements for compliance.

With increasing interest in sustainability, MSG is best placed to help you improve economic, environmental and societal impacts of your products and their production processes. At any stage within the product life cycle MSG is able to help with:

• design for the environment, design for life, design for disassembly
• choice of materials
• choice of production techniques
• assistance with end-of-life strategies
• ideas for use of by-products
• efficient manufacture.

Many companies have found that by working with MSG to address environmental issues within their operations they have achieved significant benefit to their bottom line.

As part of our Core Research Programme TWI is currently running a three year project entitled Eco-design of energy using products which will be of interest to all companies affected by the new EuP legislation.
