Fact Sheet IX (02/08)
European Engineer (EUR ING) Registration
The EUR ING designation is designed as a guarantee of competence for professional engineers in order to -
- Facilitate the movement of practicing engineers within and outside the geographical area represented by FEANI's (the governing body) 29 member countries:
- Establish a framework of mutual recognition of qualifications in order to enable engineers who wish to practice outside their own country or to deal with customers outside their own country, to carry with them a guarantee of competence;
- Encourage the continuous improvement of the quality of engineers by setting, monitoring and reviewing standards.
Qualified engineers in Europe are therefore able to register themselves within a scheme which identifies a minimum level of professional attainment and has the benefit of providing mutual recognition of engineering professionals throughout Europe.
In the UK, application for FEANI registration as EUR ING must be made through an applicant's member institution, which is a Licensed Member of the Engineering Council (UK), such as The Welding Institute.
Only candidates who are registered as Chartered Engineers can currently apply. Eligibility for Eur Ing will also depend upon a candidate's academic qualifications and years of experience and members registered as Chartered Engineers through the institute are recommended to check with the Professional Membership office prior to submitting an application.
