TWI's experience in the inspection of thermally sprayed coatings has included the following project work.

Ultrasonic image showing variations in the coating layer of an HVOF sprayed panel.

High frequency ultrasonic examination of HVOF coated test pieces to quantify changes in coating quality and to correlate these changes with variations in the spraying process.
Acoustic-emission testing to define the failure point of different coating systems during 4-point bend testing.
