TWI technology transfer programmes
Support for UK regions
Welding and joining are key enabling technologies in all sectors of industry involved in products made with engineering materials - from heavy structures and power plant, to microelectronics and medical devices.
TWI meets the individual needs of companies within specific geographic regions by providing purpose-designed support services delivered via programmes geared to prevailing socio-economic conditions.
These programmes are primarily for small and medium sized manufacturing companies (SMEs). Their objective is to boost competitiveness and stimulate growth through more effective use of technology, innovation and know-how. TWI Technology Centre (North East), TWI Technology Centre (Wales) and TWI Technology Centre (Yorkshire) play a major role in the organisation and provision of this technology transfer activity.
There are regional programmes for SMEs in the UK's North West, North East, Wales, South Yorkshire and Scotland. In these, TWI is providing information, advice and expert knowledge through its internet-based JoinIT service, as well as technical support by conventional person-to-person methods such as consultancy, technical events and training.
