Branch Programmes for 2009

All our branches run events from September and these are exceptionally useful for CPD and networking opportunities. If you haven't yet attended any events please contact your local branch for further information. Eastern Counties Branch

A most successful 28th tournament was held at the Bungay & Waveney Valley golf course. Eighteen teams of three competed and raised funds for a donation to the East Anglia's Children's Hospice movement *. Sponsorship came from individuals; P Quantrill, A Johnson, G Bulmer, Golf clubs, Bungay & Waveney and Bury St Edmunds, Companies; Anglia Fabrication & Design, Ays Home & Garden Service, Joining Technologies, Lake & Nicholls Engineering, NRW, Plant Integrity, Sinclair Stainless, TWI and the players. The supporting cast included Ray Butcher, George Bulmer, John Weston and the Staff of the Golf Club. It was through the generosity of all these people that a great day of golf was had and a donation £850 was raised (total over the past 17 years now exceeds £10,609).

The major prize winners were:

  • D Thompson, AYS Home & Garden, the Ken Larwood Memorial Salver
  • P King, NRW, the Eurobraze Cup, (handicap 18 & under)
  • A Metcalf, Ays Home & Garden, the Elga Challenge Cup (handicap 18 to 28)
  • A Metcalf, F Kerr, A Gravestock, Ayes Home & Garden, the TWI Team Trophy
  • P Evens, P Pegg, D Thompson, Ayes Home & Garden, the AM Team Trophy.

3. Younger Members

YM have been extremely active over the past few months. They are organising an event at Birmingham University in November, Renewable Energy for the future, Can young engineers generate a solution?.

The recent materials meeting - Materials issues surfacing and particulate engineering was held at TWI
Conference Centre on Tuesday 2 June 2009.

The WJS hosted the anticipated Materials Technical Group Meeting on Tuesday 2 June 2009 at TWI Cambridge Conference Centre and captured both historical and present issues on the subject of surfacing and particulate engineering, through presentations and discussions.

Despite the recent economic downturn in the industry, this year's meeting was very well attended with delegates across a wide industrial spectrum and speakers from Rolls Royce, TWI, Atomising Systems, McCaw Engineering and Hoganas. For full report please follow link.
