The TT Race in the Isle of Man (Motorcycle History)
by Ken Sprayson SenMWeldI

11 February 2008

We had a good turnout for a change we had 20 people who attended, Ken gave a most interesting talk about the TT Race in the Isle of Man from when it started in 1907 to date and he described the different courses that had been used over the years, from the first race when the speed was restricted and the difference in classes one and two cylinder bikes. He described in great detail with some priceless photos all the changes and when the Japanese bikes started to race in 1959 Honda put in a team for the first time and we all know who the main bike manufacturers are now. He also described about the technical support which is offered by the bike industry suppliers, the new grand stand that was built and the fact that the race nearly folded due to riders thinking the course was dangerous, last year was the centenary and was a great success, Ken even introduced some welding on side cars which where manufactured in situation using Reynolds tubing, all in all this was a breath of fresh air to the Teesside Branch as we had the best turnout for many a year, may be we will try more non welding lectures to stimulate the members and there guests. Lastly a big thanks to Ken Sprayson for his wonderful lecture you are welcome back any time to Teesside and I would recommend this lecture to other Branches.
