Opportunies for Academia, Institutes and Industry

We would like to hear from academia, institutes and industry who would like to collaborate with us to encourage students and young people in the profession to become the next generation of engineers.

Educational Establishments

The YMC can work with educational establishments in the following ways:

  • Student visits to TWI - Presentations and demonstrations of a broad range of joining technologies and their application to various industry sectors, followed by a tour of TWI's world class facility. If you would like to arrange a student visit to TWI contact Tom Howes for more information ( tom.howes@twi.co.uk).
  • Promoting engineering in schools and colleges - A YMC representative can visit your school or college to raise awareness of careers in engineering. Contact Richard Freeman for more information ( richard.freeman@twi.co.uk).
  • University Visits - TWI visiting universities to raise awareness of the application of specific technologies to materials joining and associated activities. Contact Amir Bahrami for more information ( amir.bahrami@twi.co.uk).

Institutes

The YMC is keen to build links with other institutes and in particular work with their Younger Members' Committee to achieve collective goals, including joint events and sharing best practice. Institutes interested to get involved with the YMC of The Welding Institute should contact ymc@twi.co.uk.

Industry

Companies interested in collaborating with us are invited to do so through the following activities:

  • Industry Sponsored Events
  • Industry Sponsored Prize
  • Company Site Visits
  • Working in partnership to get Professional Engineer status for your company's graduates/young engineers
