Chris Peters is Manager of both the Manufacturing Support and Arcs Technology Group and the Equipment, Consumables and Materials
industry team. Dr Peters joined TWI in 2001, after spending 12 years in the laser industry where he was involved in the development of high-power Nd:YAG lasers for manufacturing applications. Originally trained as a mechanical engineer, Chris later
gained additional qualifications in welding engineering and laser material processing.
Richard Jones joined TWI after completing his doctorate at University of Birmingham in 1979. His work has covered a wide range of
projects relating to the development and application of arc welding process technology and consultancy on resolving fabrication problems. He now manages the Arc Welding Section.
Bill Lucas joined TWI in 1970 and is currently Technology Manager for Arc Welding. He is a visiting Professor at University of Liverpool
and became the first research engineer at TWI to be awarded a Doctor of Science for his contribution to arc welding and computer technology. He has specialised in sensor systems, novel process development and the appliance of computing to arc
welding processes. He is currently Chairman of IIW Commission XII, 'Arc Welding Processes and Production Systems'.
Geoff Melton joined TWI in 1974 as a research engineer in the Control Engineering Support Group. He left TWI in 1987 to work for a
welding equipment and consumable manufacturer in management, development and technical support roles. He rejoined TWI in 1999 in the Arc Welding Dept and is also the Chairman of the British (WEE/6) and European (CENELEC TC26A) Committees for
standardisation of arc welding equipment.
