Subcontractor solutions

When tricky manufacturing problems arise, TWI Industrial Members are turning to specialised welding and joining facilities at Abington for a subcontract solution. By making use of TWI's advanced equipment and skilled operators, Industrial Members can use the most suitable fabrication techniques without expensive investment in equipment or training.

Batches of heavy duty components pass regularly through our friction welding workshop, where the piston-to-clevis-head weld is completed in a heavy duty friction welder. Other machines are available in the Department for welding bar from 4 to 120mm diameter or larger tubular components of similar cross section for friction surfacing, and for welding using angular, orbital and - most frequently - linear motion as appropriate. Equipment for friction stud and magnetically impelled arc butt welding is equally on hand for subcontract work.

Specialists in other TWI departments offer similar assistance - for example in high-power lasers, in electron beam welding (the 150m3 chamber can accommodate large, heavy workpieces), in arc welding, in plastics joining, in microjoining and in the specialised manufacturing facilities of production services.
