Lasers in TWI Regional Projects
TWI has been active in a number of regional project activities, particularly at the TWI Yorkshire facility. The Lasers and Sheet Processes Group is divided between two locations in Cambridge and in Sheffield.
With funding available from the DTI, Yorkshire Forward and Objective 1, TWI is currently involved in the following programmes:
The Laser Advanced Manufacturing programme is aimed at helping companies based in the Yorkshire & Humber region improve business and manufacturing utilising the latest laser processes.

Aimed at companies engaged in metal forging and forming activities, funding is available for TWI to complete technical and training projects for businesses in this industry.
FriSC and LaserAM Technology Transfer in Yorkshire and Humber
TWI can provide help and assistance to companies on any aspects of welding, joining and related technologies.
All of these programmes allow TWI to work with companies centred around the Yorkshire & Humber area, although Toolform is also a nationwide project.
TWI Yorkshire Facilities
Equipment at TWI Yorkshire includes:
- High Power Fibre Laser
- Direct Metal Laser Deposition (DMLD)
Currently located at the Dore Industrial Estate, Orgreave, TWI will be moving shortly to a new purpose built facility at the Advanced Manufacturing Park, Waverley, Sheffield.
