Functional coatings for electronic applications

The need to increase component performance in the electronic industry brings the inevitable requirement to enhance or change the materials and processes they employ. Surface engineering is a critical part of both these industries due to the nature of the technologies. The following examples demonstrate some of the services TWI can offer:

Electronic Applications

A continual drive for miniaturisation and low cost volume production has led to use of hybrid technology for electronic devices. The resulting increase in power density has placed demands for improvements to be made in the thermal dissipation characteristics of current hybrid power circuits.

High velocity oxyfuel (HVOF) spraying has recently emerged as an alternative technology for the application of high quality ceramics. The advantages of using the technology reside in the opportunity to apply the ceramic directly onto the substrate without the need of a bonding operation.
