Technology Transfer at TWI
Technology transfer is a core TWI activity. Through its international networks, TWI continually infuses and then diffuses the results of research and development activities on a broad range of joining and associated technologies.
Our main services all represent aspects of technology transfer, namely provision of information and advice, consultancy, R&D, training and qualification. TWI staff participate extensively in development of industry Standards - a key means of translating new developments into established best practice.
Within Technology Transfer Services (TTS), a group of TWI staff is devoted specifically to technology transfer, and plays a major role in UK regional projects, providing assistance to SMEs. More information on TTS services in a printable leaflet on this website
Technology transfer is also achieved through individuals by means of the Welding & Joining Society's programme of branch activities, magazine, technical groups and other meetings and networking events. Technical information is widely distributed through our web sites and publications.
TWI has active links with UK and overseas universities in collaborative research activities and in utilising Engineering Doctorate or PhD students, as appropriate, to progress fundamental aspects of key technologies.
