Resistance Welding

Resistance welding fine-pitch copper interconnections
Fine-pitch copper interconnections

Small scale resistance welding is used extensively in electronic packaging and sensor/transducer assembly. This joining process uses both heat and pressure to form a weld, the heat being generated by the resistance of the materials to the flow of electric current. The main advantages of resistance welding are that it is a low-cost, well proven process capable of producing joints quickly and reliably

Expertise

The Microtechnology Section's expertise in this technology is the product of five decades of close involvement in all aspects of resistance-based welding processes. Extensive know-how underpins a comprehensive range of consultancy, training and R&D services
