Expertise

TWI's expertise in NDT extends well beyond the inspection of welded joints in metals, covering examination of a large variety of materials, products and structures both during manufacture and in service. Recent TWI projects have included:

  • inspection techniques for bonds & welds in non-metallic materials such as carbon fibre composite, GRP and polyethylene
  • comparison of phased array probes with conventional ultrasonic probes
  • procedures for the detection of flaws in railway lines
  • assessment of methods for detection of corrosion in pipework
  • Use of ultrasonic inspection in lieu of radiography to ASME VIII, Division 2, sec 7.5.5.
