Facilities

TWI has comprehensive thermal spraying facilities, including four commercial high velocity oxyfuel (HVOF) spraying systems (TopGun, JP5000, Diamond Jet and HVT wire), arc spraying and flame spraying.

Ceramic, metal, polymer and composite coatings can be prepared from powder, solid wire and cored wire consumables.

TWI offers a comprehensive service from feasibility studies, new coating development and prototype trials to procedure transfer to thermal spraying contractors, providing technical support for:

- Reducing spraying process costs
- Mechanisation, automation and increasing speed of manufacture

Environmental, health and safety best practice

TWI operates in accordance with current environmental, health and safety best practice and can provide up to date technical support and advice on the installation and operation of:

- Dry particle extraction systems
- Sound attenuated booths
- Fuel gas and oxygen sensors/alarms
- Spray booth and robot safety interlocks

At TWI, professionally qualified engineers with expertise in coating processes and applications, metallurgists and corrosion experts provide the multi-disciplinary expertise necessary to solve coating failure problems. We offer services to determine the cause of failure, materials analysis, metallography, advice on coating selection and expert witnesses.

Non-Destructive Evaluation

TWI provides a range of technologies in the field of non-destructive examination, for detection of imminent coating bond failure and substrate crack detection, including ultrasonic, thermographic and laser shearography techniques.
