With long-established use in the aerospace and chemical processing industries, titanium and its alloys are now seeing rapidly increasing application in other areas such as the medical, construction, oil & gas and automotive sectors. Through working on titanium alloys for several decades (virtually since titanium was first adopted as an engineering material), TWI has developed considerable experience of its fabrication and performance. In recent years, TWI has carried out significant work in the following areas:

Although TWI's substantial pool of titanium know-how is available only to its Industrial Member companies, TWI also works with a titanium trade association. The information below is made freely available on TWI's website by kind permission of the Titanium Information Group (TIG). Through its core interest in materials joining and allied technologies, TWI has been an active member of TIG for almost a decade.
