At Technology Demonstrators you can try out up-to-date working equipment and see for yourself what can be achieved on your materials or components. You can compare the capabilities of different processes and discuss with experienced specialists concerns such as consumables selection, quality, training and health & safety.
As well as impartial advice and practical help, you'll also be able to get guidance on those all-important techno-economic issues.
More information on Technology Demonstrators.
Your hands-on session at a Technology Demonstrator might identify the need for follow-up assistance which could be in the form of a Product and process review - see immediately below.
Product & Process Reviews (PPRs) provide companies with 2 days intensive technical support in any aspect of materials joining, and related technical issues.
In a PPR, a TWI specialist visits your company. This may be a troubleshooting exercise to solve a specific technical problem, or it might be an evaluation of your manufacturing practices to identify opportunities for reducing costs or find where improvements in productivity, quality or health & safety can be made. A written report is provided summarising the findings of the PPR. To arrange a visit, call 01223 899 479 and ask for the Wales Helpdesk.
In some cases, practical trials or development work are required to confirm or amplify the conclusion of a Product & Process Review (PPR). In such cases, a Feasibility Study, providing up to 5 days' technical support, might be the solution.
There may be material costs depending on the nature of the Feasibility Study. A further report gives you hard evidence of the potential benefits of implementing the findings of the PPR.
Joining Forces Wales 2 advises on training and certification programmes to ensure that personnel have the competence and skills to adopt changed practices and exploit new technologies.
For over three decades TWI has successfully designed and delivered its standard and tailor-made courses to meet industry needs world-wide. Internationally recognised and industry-accredited courses cover welding and joining technologies, inspection, non-destructive testing, and related subjects such as design, materials weldability and thermal cutting.
Training is provided at all levels and leads to qualifications (CSWIP, Lloyds, ASNT, PCN, BGAS, ACCP, AWS, EWF) up to and including professional and international diplomas in engineering. For UK customers, training is available from Port Talbot at TWI Wales and at TWI's Cambridge, Middlesbrough and Sheffield technology centres. Training can also be provided at the customer's premises.
