Membership voice, November - December 2003
Over the next two issues I thought you might like to learn more about the voices you hear at the end of the telephone, and the names you may read on TWI e-mails in response to the 2000 enquiries made each year to TWI Information Services.
In this issue I'm concentrating on the library staff. Next time I'll introduce you to the rest of the Information Services team, who are involved in databases and search services.
Linda Dumper - Manager, Information Services Linda came to TWI in 1975. She has held several posts in the library, and spent some time in the marketing department, before taking up her current post in 1993. She is responsible for the development of the Information Services section, and for providing an efficient enquiry service to all Members. Her specific areas of expertise are market and company information, copyright issues and knowledge management. Please call Linda or e-mail her:
linda.dumper@twi.co.uk John Ayres - Technical Librarian
John joined TWI in 2001, having worked in a variety of libraries. He is responsible for running the library service, with special emphasis on developing the computer- based catalogue, and selection and control of the stock of around 20,000 books, reports, theses etc. His proud claim is to have helped five libraries to move already, so he is the ideal person to take charge of the imminent re-location to the new library. Any e-mails you send to library@twi.co.uk are received by John. He is also the first person you are likely to speak to if you telephone the library for assistance. Joanne Cooper - Assistant LibrarianJoanne joined TWI earlier this year, after a number of years' experience working in research and industrial libraries. Joanne is involved, like John, in organising the library for efficient document retrieval, with particular emphasis on the 450 journals taken in the library and 10 000 or more standards in our collection. joanne.cooper@twi.co.uk Lorna Laken - Information AssistantLorna joined TWI in 1978, and moved to her present post in the library in 1992. Her major task is to assist members and staff with enquiries, helping them to find items they need from library stock of over 50 000 items. She provides an efficient document delivery service for staff and members, and in particular supplies articles found from searches done on the Weldasearch database. lorna.laken@twi.co.uk Martin Adams - Information Assistant Martin joined TWI in 2001 to fulfil several roles. He splits his time between organising the Master File of correspondence with Industrial Members and operating the internal archive system, and the library, where his major role is ensuring that new journals are efficiently distributed to TWI staff.
