The production of databases and some web based news files are an important part of the work of the Information Services section. The main database is Weldasearch, which many of you will have used regularly, and is available via www.weldasearch.com Weldasearch is soon to get a new search interface on the website which will enable you to search more easily and to set up your own monthly alert service, to keep you up to date with current developments in your area of interest.
In addition we are involved in the production of a database of metals and welding consumables, MI-21, and also in providing weekly news files for the TWI website. The following members of staff are dedicated to making these services available to Members, and ensuring that you gain maximum benefit from them.
Margaret Connell - Information scientist
Margaret joined TWI in 2001 as an Information Scientist. She has just completed an MSc in Information Science, having worked for some years as a chemist and gradually moved towards information work. Margaret's main tasks are producing and editing abstracts and undertaking online searches for staff, Industrial and Professional Members.
Contact either Peter or Margaret to ask for searches, to get advice on the best way to do searches yourself via Weldasearch on the website, or to set up a monthly profile of items from Weldasearch in your particular areas of interest. Telephone either of them or e-mail peter.adams@twi.co.uk or margaret.connell@twi.co.uk - or you can just e-mail weldasearch@twi.co.uk
Jackie Lloyd - Informational assistant Jackie Lloyd joined TWI in 1997. She has responsibility for the smooth flow of work to produce the Weldasearch database. This involves liaising with our 12 outside abstractors, and ensuring that the items to be entered into the database are accurately recorded and easily located. She is currently working mainly on the MI-21 metals and consumables database project, preparing our welding consumables information for entry into a web-based database.
