Bob John, TWI's new CEO (left) with Peter Adams

Peter Adams, who worked in the information services section for a third of a century, retired on 12 May 2004. Peter joined TWI in 1971, at a time when information professionals were beginning to use the power of computers, and he and his colleagues helped to put the Welding Institute in the forefront by developing the Weldasearch database. Since that time, Peter has guided the development of the database and also the provision of online search services for Members.

Peter has undertaken three major re-writes of the Weldasearch database software, the last of which is currently being implemented, and is an acknowledged expert in the field of welding and joining terminology. He has led the revision of the IIW International Welding Thesaurus, due to be completed this summer, and has been involved in ISO, CEN and BSI committees on welding terminology.

His position in leading the Weldasearch team has been taken over by Sheila Thomas. While retaining her role as Webmaster for TWI, Sheila will be working with Margaret Connell and Jackie Lloyd on the production of Weldasearch and offering online search services to Members. You can contact Sheila Thomas, Margaret Connell, Jackie Lloyd or e-mail weldasearch@twi.co.uk with any search requests. If you would like to use Weldasearch via the Website and would like some help to get started, please don't hesitate to contact Sheila and her colleagues.
