Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3)
In addition to being the primary professional membership organisation in the UK materials world, the Institute offers the Materials Information Service, with both a traditional library service and a technical enquiry service. It also holds regular conferences and has a wide range of publications.

AZoM - The A to Z of Materials
The site constitutes an online encyclopaedia, developed in collaboration with the Institute of Materials, CERAM Research and Rapra Technology as a free materials knowledge base and a free news service for the engineering, design and materials communities to promote the use of advanced materials. It includes technical articles and news items on metals, ceramics, polymers and composites and offers listings of suppliers and subject experts

The National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC)
NAMTEC aims to increase the global competitiveness of the UK's metals sector by stimulating high technology innovation and research and development. Its services include a technical helpline, staffed by a team of experienced metallurgists who will advise on metals related problems and identify solutions, and the NAMTEC website which allows registered users to search information about metals and their properties, processing technologies and applications.

This site assists the user to locate a metal standard or grade anywhere in the world. It includes 145 000 metal standards, and 150 000 company profiles for the metals industry. More detail is available through the subscription section of the site.

The British Stainless Steel Association [BSSA]
The BSSA exists to promote and develop the manufacture and use of stainless steel in the interest of its members. Its services include the Stainless steel advisory service (SSAS), free to all UK enquirers which acts as a valuable reference source for stainless steel products and ancillary services. In addition the technical information part of the BSSA website offers answers to frequently asked questions along with immediate access to products and services provided by BSSA member companies, and listings of relevant standards.
