Membership voice, May - June 2005
TWI is organised in a matrix of Technology Groups and Industry Teams. In essence the Technology Groups are responsible for the delivery of R&D and management of the technical resources whereas the Industry Teams ensure that the operations meet the requirements of the Members.
Existing Industry Teams include Oil, Gas and Chemicals, Power Generation, Construction and Engineering, Automotive, Electronics, Sensors and Medical and Aerospace, which represent the main sectors within membership. We have now added an extra team, the Equipment, Consumables and Materials (ECM) team, to cater for the needs of welding and NDT equipment companies, welding electrodes manufacturers, industrial gas companies and raw materials suppliers.
Chris Peters has been appointed as the leader of the ECM team. Chris is also head of the Manufacturing Support and Arc Processes Technology Group at TWI. The team includes TWI staff with expertise in manufacturing business process support (Michelle Routley), welding equipment and consumables (Geoff Melton) information and market research (Linda Dumper), member requirements (Ian Froment), and marketing (Dave McKeown).
The other Industry Team Leaders are:
| Aerospace : | Iain Smith |
| Automotive : | John Kell |
| Construction and Engineering : | Graham Wylde |
| Electronics, Sensors and Medical : | Norman Stockham |
| Oil, Gas and Chemical : | Reza Razmjoo |
| Power : | Brian Cane |
There are about 80 Member companies within the ECM sector, representing 12.5% of the membership of TWI.
The ECM team is currently exploring ways to engage with the sector effectively in order to improve the services we already provide. One part of the strategy is an Industry Panel meeting planned for 27 September 2005 where attendees will gain a global overview of market drivers in equipment, consumables and materials for a range of industry sectors.
Contact Chris ( chris.peters@twi.co.uk) if you would like to receive an invitation to the panel meeting, or if you would like to have an input into TWI's activities for the Equipment, Consumables and Materials sector.
Within the Industrial Member Services Group, I am pleased to announce that Ian Froment has been appointed Section Manager, Industrial Membership Development. Ian was previously responsible for the Membership with the Electronics, Sensors and Medical sector. He will now have multi-sectorial responsibilities for Member recruitment and retention.
