Following on from TWI's first Green Day, held on 7 June at Abington, the list of websites for this issue guides you to information sources on various aspects of energy provision, especially the development and use of renewable sources. There are many websites on the subject, therefore this is the first of two lists, concentrating on Worldwide and European sites.
EnergyFiles energy science and technology virtual library, allowing access to over 500 databases and websites containing information of interest to the US Department of Energy. Search by subject, or by identifying a particular database through the resource index.

World Energy Efficiency Association assists developing countries to access information on energy efficiency. It serves as a clearinghouse for information on energy efficiency programs, technologies and measures,publicises international cooperation efforts in energy efficiency and disseminates the information worldwide. The site includes several useful directories of companies and organisations, a list of its publications and profiles of institutions with an interest in energy efficiency.

World Energy Council is the foremost multi-energy organisation in the world, aiming to promote sustainable supply and use of energy. Details of forthcoming meetings, the 2005 - 2007 work programme, energy information which includes a Survey of Energy Resources, 2004, and Energy Efficiency Policies and Indicators, also from 2004.

International Energy Agency describes the work of the agency, and gives information categorised by topic and region on all aspects of the industry. Details of the World Energy Outlook for 2006 and 2007 is given and a list of free downloads is available, such as extracts from World Energy Outlook and 30 Key Energy Trends.

REN 21 - Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century is a global policy network providing a forum for international leadership on renewable energy. It offers information about REN 21, a list of the REN 21publications, information on international RE policy process and on renewable energy policies, a renewables global status report, international action programme, a list of global issues of renewable energy and prospects for the sector.Also available is a virtual library on RE policies, a policy and events calendar, access to 'Reegle', an information gateway to resources on renewable energy, and press releases and recent presentations from REN.

Europa European Commission - Environment this section of the Europa website covers Europe's policies, integration with other sectors, funding and resources for the environment, as well as a calendar of events,consultations and news items and press releases from a variety of sources.

AGORES - a Global Overview of Renewable Energy Sources of the European Commission offers information on EC and member national strategies for the increased implementation of renewable energy sources, fields of renewable energy activity, information on the various sources of renewable energy and lists of key organisations and players worldwide in the industry. It also includes news and events on the technology, website links, community programme information and information on renewable energy projects.

Institute for Energy of the European Community's Joint Research Centre, which provides scientific and technical support for community policies related to energy, especially relating to security of supply and sustainable, safe, energy production. It includes information on the Centre and details of its activities, news releases, lists of events from 2002 onwards, publications (including the ability to download relevant EUR reports) and a jobs section.
