We are launching a new service called MI21 (Metals Information for the 21st Century) which I think will be of significant benefit to Industrial Members of TWI. It is one of the most comprehensive metals and welding consumable databases on the web.
Developed over the last four years by a partnership of TWI, the World Metals Index, Granta Design and NAMTEC, the database contains 23,000 consumables (TWI) and 18,000 ferrous and non-ferrous (WMI) datasheets to date. These can be rapidly accessed by:
- Standard grade
- Chemical composition and mechanical and physical properties
- Form (covered electrode, covered filler, solid filler, etc.)
- Applications and uses
- Product trade name
- Approvals
Each datasheet links to its source of information and supplier (where appropriate).
The service is backed up by information services and technical support at TWI and WMI and these organisations' unique collections of trade literature and standards on metals and consumables dating back many decades.
The consumables database can save time and money by providing metallurgists, welding engineers, sales and procurement staff with answers to questions such as:
- What is the chemical composition of Blue Max FC-316L?
- What products can weld Cor-Ten A using the MMA process?
- What is T 1NiMo in EN ISO 18276 and what products are manufactured to this grade?
- Who supplies Zeron 100?
- Is there an alternative product to OK 61.25?
- Are there comparable European products to Tianjin J424 and where can I buy them?
- What product has replaced OK Staintrode R10?
TWI Industrial Members have free access to the consumables database through the TWI website.
A subscription will be required for the WMI database.
