Membership voice, September - October 2008 Another innovation has been launched by TWI Information Services. You can now access a new monthly alerts service from the Weldasearch® database.
You just go into the database on the TWI website, or use the direct access from www.weldasearch.com, and click on 'alerting service'.
You will then be invited to set up your profile of interests, and build up a set of terms you wish the system to search every month. You can undertake a sample search to see what you would have received in the past month from the search.
If the results you see are relevant, then go ahead.
You will then be asked to insert your name and e-mail address and, having saved the profile, just wait for the first set of references to be e-mailed to you when the next monthly update of the database takes place.
If you change the subjects you are interested in, you can go back into your personal profile and change the terms for your search. If you are going away for six months, you can suspend the service and reactivate it on your return.
Once you have received your monthly e-mail, you can contact TWI library library@twi.co.uk to request loans or photocopies of the items that particularly interest you.
If you find it difficult to set up your profile, or if the results you get do not seem to match your needs, just contact Sheila Thomas or Margaret Connell at weldeasearch@twi.co.uk, and they will help you refine your search to get the best results.
