As the challenges of exploration and production of oil and gas become increasingly complex, TWI's activities in enabling cost effective and reliable extraction of such remote resources, while complying with stringent regulations and external scrutiny, becomes more and more crucial to the industry.
TWI's expertise has contributed to the safe, reliable and economic production and transportation of hydrocarbons from oil and gas fields, both on and offshore, for over five decades. We are continuing to add value to the industry throughout project life cycles from front-end engineering, dealing with failures and the unexpected, through to life extension and finally decommissioning. With more than half of our current activities in this sector we are planning to align our strategies progressively with industry needs and developments. TWI's oil and gas team is keen to ensure that it continues to perform its role in both supporting the industry and leading the technical developments needed to overcome challenges of both today and tomorrow.
Our current activities in structural integrity, materials and corrosion, inspection and joining processes all aim to encompass the topics that are of concern to the current and planned development projects by our industrial membership. This comprises all the major players in the industry from operators and contractors to material suppliers and regulatory bodies. Our core research projects and joint industry programme are designed to achieve this strategic alignment and we eagerly invite our members to contribute actively to the direction of these projects.
By working closely together we will continue to build on our strong foundations of impartiality, confidentiality and technical expertise and lead the technical developments required for overcoming the challenges ahead.
Amir Bahrami is the Manager of TWI's Oil, Gas and Chemicals Industry Sector. His experience includes welding, testing and qualification of materials, particularly polymers, as well as organisational integrity and multidisciplinary programme management for the oil and gas industry.
His main focus is on strategic development of services and technologies needed to provide effective and efficient solutions to the current and upcoming technical challenges facing the safe and reliable exploration and production of oil and gas.
