Add TWI’s information to your own. TWI provides you with access to the world’s most comprehensive information resource on materials welding and joining related technologies.
To be in the best position to win work and make accurate decisions you need to be up-to-date with the latest research, industry practice and standards.
TWI offers all Industrial Member Companies unlimited access to its Library and Information Service, a unique resource that creates and supplies information based products specifically to assist Members to find the information they need, when they need it.
How can you improve your access to these services?
All members of staff from all Industrial Member Companies are encouraged to use the services outlined below. You can register individually for the TWI website to access the databases and electronic products. Just remember to identify yourself as an employee of an Industrial Member company when completing the form.
Over the years, we have found that we can add even greater value to Industrial Membership by working in collaboration with your library or information/knowledge services. If you wish to explore this option, please ask the appropriate member of your staff to contact me.
What are the services?
Weldasearch
Using the Weldasearch database you can search over 200,000 items of published literature on welding and allied processes, going back forty years. You can do this yourself, by accessing the database through the TWI website, or ask us to carry out the search for you.
Abstracts of published items on welding in TWI’s library, and from other sources, are produced by TWI’s information scientists. These abstracts are compiled into the Weldasearch database, which has been updated constantly since 1968. You can request loans or copies of the items you have identified from TWI’s library.
Alerts
To help you further, you can set up Alerts from the Weldasearch front page on the website, to supply all new abstracts on your particular interests every time the database is updated. Information services staff can help you set up your Alert search strategy if you wish, and these are easy to update when your interests change.
MI-21
This unique database of consumables for welding, brazing, soldering and surfacing has been built up by TWI Information Services, and is made available free to TWI Industrial Members via the website. You can search on:
-
Standard grades
-
Company trade names
-
Mechanical properties or chemical composition
-
Current or obsolete grades
-
Product approvals
-
Suppliers and standards organisations
You can also compare products to find out which one meets the chemical composition or mechanical properties you require; or trace the successor to an obsolete product. As well as the database, an advisory service is available for products or grades not yet included, and for any additional information you may require. Email us or call the TWI Library.
Industry News
You can find out what is going on in your industry sector by consulting Industry News on the TWI website. TWI’s information professionals search through a variety of online sources, newspapers and journals received at TWI, to identify and abstract articles that relate to your interests.
TWI Library
Underpinning these products is TWI’s Library, which offers a comprehensive collection of publications and information sources on welding and other joining and related engineering and materials technologies.
The library offers Members an enquiry service, access to the library catalogue via the TWI website, and the ability to borrow or obtain copies of items identified, either from the catalogue or the Weldasearch database.
E-Books
To ensure that you can make the most of your TWI membership, even if you can’t visit the library, or if you are on site in a remote area, in addition to all the information on the TWI website, you can also access approximately 140 full-text books via the Knovel e-books site. We have selected the most relevant books for our industry from the Knovel list. Just follow the route to Electronic Books on the website, and pick from the TWI Members list of books.
What’s New?
Our next service improvement comes later this year. TWI will, for the first time, as a result of a six year archiving project, have access to electronic copies of almost all the reports we have produced. This will include: core research reports; some exploratory reports; reports produced for individual companies; group sponsored project reports; and collaborative project reports.
If you have not used the services, and wish to discuss them with a member of the Information Services team, please contact us, or call us and ask for Information Services.
