Digitisation of some twenty thousand Member Reports has just been completed as part of an upgrade to TWI’s corporate website.
The milestone comes as the technology engineering business also prepared to launch its thousandth Core Research Report. They are now web-accessible to Industrial Members.
TWI’s world-renowned archive of Member Reports dates back to February 1976 when a young TWI stalwart named Steve Jones published the first on “Process tolerance in submerged arc welding”. The now seasoned Dr Jones began retirement from TWI three years ago, but still contributes to the business as a consultant.
The Core Research report archive, will embrace work on disparate subjects from adhesives in aerospace to structural integrity in stir welding. It will be searchable for free to Industrial Members from mid November.
Along the 35 year trail ground-breaking episodes have been documented in Core Research reports including the pioneering of friction stir welding, as well as CO2 laser cutting, reduced pressure electron beam welding and pulsed arc MIG welding.
Member reports, particularly in the eighties and nineties, embraced the first sightings of theory which today is the internationally adopted standard or code of practice.
In particular TWI led the charge in fatigue design and fracture mechanics theory, and the associated areas of the Wells wide plate test, and crack tip opening displacement testing.
Rough calculations indicate that these reports represent the culmination of some £100M worth of project work.
This extension to Membership Services, which is included in Industrial Members’ subscription, will be accessible to Industrial Members shortly using their existing username and password.
