New GRP certification scheme

TWI has met the demands of the offshore, marine and water industries with a new independent training scheme for people working on the installation of glass-reinforced plastics(GRP) pipes. The initiative is the first of its kind and is based on the guidelines established by the United Kingdom Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA).

Available in June and October at TWI North in Middlesbrough, the pipe fitter/jointer training course is open to anyone over the age of eighteen with at least two years documented pipe fitter for GRP experience. Participants are offered a theoretical and practical introduction to materials characteristics and joining techniques commonly used in pipeline construction, while the end-of-course examination awards a Certificate of Competence.

TWI is the first organisation to offer an independently certificated training course for GRP personnel which allows progression on to subsequent Specific Approval, Supervisor and Inspector certification.
