TWI's Inspection Section has recently enhanced its electromagnetic inspection services by purchasing a TSC U9 Crack Microgauge. This equipment is widely recognised for its crack sizing ability with ACFM able to operate through protective coatings and ACPD providing a detailed crack profile.

The ACFM equipment is being used in conjunction with MPI and ACPD to assess the performance of automated ultrasonic techniques currently used in pipeline inspection as part of a Group Sponsored Project. The data on inspection reliability is needed to establish the expected lifetimes of deep water riser welds that are subject to fatigue.

Industrial Member companies can now take advantage of both in-house and on-site electromagnetic inspection services using ACFM and other techniques. In addition, TWI North in Middlesbrough offers a full training and certification programme.
