Are you aware of skin sensitisation problems caused by epoxy resins?

TWI has just started a project, funded by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) investigating potential adverse effects of using epoxies in the construction industry and would like to hear from anyone with relevant information.

It has been reported that certain epoxy resins when used as adhesives, coatings or sealants can have adverse health effects. Photo-sensitisation, skin, eye, nose and throat sensitisation have all been reported.

The project staff will carry out a technical appraisal of epoxy resins and make contact with major suppliers and users to obtain the latest information and identify cases of skin sensitisation during use.

It is anticipated that the results of the work will be published and made available to industrial users and suppliers of epoxy resins.
