Time-zone and distance are now no object when you need information in a hurry. This is the message being received by TWI from users of JoinIT, TWI's internet based online resource on welding, joining and related technologies.
Over 100 staff of oil giant BP are already benefiting from their ability to access the JoinIT website as part of their corporate membership package. Many BP plants and operations centres are in distant or remote parts of the world and, when their people need to tap into TWI's technical know-how they can do so whenever they wish.
John Hammond, Principal Engineer - Welding, BP, and Official TWI Membership Representative said in his message to colleagues, 'I hope that this new service will enable BP to get even more value out of our membership of TWI. In particular, it will be especially valuable to staff who operate in countries with different time-zones from mainland Europe, who in the past may have found contact with TWI limited to just an hour or two of the working day by the time difference. Use of JoinIT should extend access to TWI technical information around the clock.'
Not only can BP personnel access the pool of knowledge available to any Industrial Member company on JoinIT, but they are also able to make use of a confidential BP area of the website. Developed in collaboration with TWI, this area specifically covers projects undertaken for, and in collaboration with, BP. Over the years it has provided a valuable record of research, development and problem solving, and a route to retrieve complete reports which are still relevant to current issues.
