TWI was recently presented with the Okouchi Award in Japan for developments in the application of friction stir welding to railway vehicles. The award was shared with Hitachi.
The Okouchi Memorial Foundation presents this award every year to about a dozen individuals or organisations who have achieved outstanding performance in the field of production engineering or research and development for production technology. It was established about 47 years ago to promote and develop production engineering in Japan in honour of the achievement of Dr Masatoshi Okouchi who devoted himself to this field.
