A new British Standard has recently come into existence which specifies a method of testing the skill and knowledge of welders involved in the repair or construction of thermoplastic structures.

BS EN 13067 Plastics welding personnel - Qualification testing of welders - thermoplastics welded assemblies covers the principles to be observed in the qualification testing of welder performance.

The skill of a welder is an essential condition to assure the quality of the welding work and application of this standard guarantees that the examination is carried out according to a uniform procedure.

The standard applies to the welding of sheet, pipe, fittings and lining membranes, using the following welding processes:

  • Hot gas welding
  • Extrusion welding
  • Heated tool (butt and socket fusion, wedge)
  • Electrofusion

TWI runs internationally recognised CSWIP examinations, aligned to BS EN 13067, at TWI North in Middlesbrough or on site worldwide.
