The EC(UK) new Standards for Chartered Engineers, Incorporated Engineers and Engineering Technicians, came into effect from 1 March 2004. All candidates applying for membership of The Welding Institute linked to registration willtherefore be considered under the new standards.

While the accredited academic requirements are based on SARTOR 3, Licensed Engineering Institutions, such as The Welding Institute, can assess and approve industry-specific qualifications as counting towards the requirements fornon-standard candidates.
