Metz event attracts record numbers

Delegates at the 5th International Friction Stir Welding Symposium in Metz

The 5th International Friction Stir Welding Symposium held in Metz, France in September this year attracted 186 attendees, a record for this event, and 61 papers were presented on a variety of topics associated with friction stirwelding.

Attendees came from 23 countries from every inhabited continent of the world. Delegates from New Zealand and Australia, South Africa, Brazil and China for the first time, as well as from North America, Europe and Japan. Much of thesuccess was due to the hard work done by TWI's co-hosts, the Institut de Soudure.

The importance of this event was underlined by the association of several other events with the Symposium.

The 6th International Friction Stir Welding Symposium (6IFSWS) will be held in Saint-Sauveur, near Montreal, Canada, from 10-12 October 2006. This event will be co-hosted by the Aerospace Manufacturing Technology Centre of theNational Research Council of Canada.
