The Polymers Group at TWI has recently been donated two items of equipment to complement its extensive plastics joining facilities.

Branson Ultrasonics have loaned the latest in ultrasonic welding technology, the MC2000. With integrated PC, it allows full user control of all parameters, with data recording, graphical display and SPC analysis. Located in thePolymers laboratory at Great Abington, the equipment will be used in both R&D activities and training in the ultrasonic welding process.

Meanwhile at TWI North in Middlesbrough, a large diameter butt fusion welding machine, capable of handling pipe sizes up to 630mm has been donated by International Plastic Systems of Seaham. This will mainly be used in training andexamination activities, and now allows CSWIP certification in large diameter PE pipe welding to be carried out in-house.
