SkillWELD winner goes West

Following the successful SkillWELD Competition finals held at TWI in April 2004, the winner, Gareth Rees from Whitland Engineering in Wales, and Chris Robertson from Interserve in Scotland, both attended the UK Skills World SkillsAssessment Event held at Derby College between 17-21 January. Colin Eileens from TWI, the UK Skills appointed 'welding expert', was on hand to oversee the competition, which resulted in Gareth Rees being selected as the UKrepresentative for the World Skills Show in Helsinki in June 2005. Congratulations to both Gareth and Chris for the high standard that emerged during the competition.

It is also planned that Gareth, accompanied by Colin Eileens, will attend the AWS Show in Dallas, USA, in April for a welding competition, similar to the World Skills event, providing an excellent opportunity to firm up his weldingskills in preparation for the Helsinki event.
