TWI to develop risk-based tool for maintenance planning of wind turbines

TWI is a partner in the UK Department of Trade and Industry sponsored project 'Cost Reduction and Life Extension of Offshore Wind Farms' (CORLEX). The project is led by steel company Corus and encompasses a range of cost reductionstrategies for both fabrication and operation of offshore wind farms. TWI is leading a work package to develop a risk-based life management (RBLM) methodology designed to reduce operating costs. A series of RBLMworkbooks/specifications will be produced, to help asset owners design safe, technically sound and economically supportable risk-based maintenance and inspection programs for wind farms. The project work will build on the experiencethat TWI has gained through the successful implementation of RISKWISE ^TM software in both the power and process industries.
