Record turnout for Aerospace

Presentations were made by TWI on friction stir welding, laser welding of Ti and Ni alloys, NDT of composites, machining and joining of composites, modelling of Ti forming and its
hydrogen re-embrittlement facilities.

Industrial members APCI and Spirit Aero Systems presented on linear friction welding developments and friction stir spot welding developments respectively. TWI was also able to demonstrate its new E20 production linear friction welding machine, manufactured by Thompson Friction Welding.

During the same week TWI hosted a meeting of the IIW Friction Stir Spot Welding Committee and three Group Sponsored Project (GSP) meetings on advanced arc and laser welding of Ni alloys, metallic coating of composite materials and advanced rotary friction welding. The next Aerospace Industry Panel Meeting be on Wednesday 14 March 2012, with associated GSP meetings also taking place during the week.
