South East Asia ACFM course

Connect, no.77, June 1996

TWI Training and Certification, South East Asia recently ran the first Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM) Crack Microgauge Course in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The course was oversubscribed and further courses will be heldthroughout 1996.

The technique is ideally suited to defect detection and defect sizing in electrical conducting material. It is especially useful for rapid scanning and sizing through paint and rust, both topside and underwater. The ACFM techniquehas now been accepted by certifying authorities and the majority of offshore operators as an acceptable technique for detecting surface breaking fatigue cracks. The five day course finishes with a Lloyds approval examination.
