The Internal Research Programme is a three year rolling programme designed to meet the needs of TWI's Industrial Members. Projects last between one and three years. The current programme, is budgeted at more than three million pounds a year and includes over 50 projects related to joining technology.
One of the main objectives of the programme is to develop skills and knowledge in joining related subjects. By so doing manufacturing costs are reduced, product quality is improved, safety and reliability needs are both met and exceeded and, perhaps most importantly, innovation is encouraged.
The programme which, needless to say, is carried out under ISO 9001:2000, is quite simply a series of research projects selected with you, the Industrial Member, in mind. It accurately reflects the needs and activities of TWI's Membership and is funded by its annual fees. All results and the published Industrial Member reports are peer reviewed by representatives of the Industrial Members before release. Furthermore such results can only be accessed by Industrial Member companies.
"Great innovations and step changes in capabilities, such as friction stir welding, can be generated."
Professor John Irven - Director of Technology, Air Products
