Title
Assessment of Advanced Imaging Techniques for Power Generation Applications
StatusProposal
Description
Launch date: 21 March 2012.
Detection and accurate assessment of Type IV cracking is a recognised element of the plant life assessment process for conventional power plant. This project aims to further develop an emerging technology to enable more accurate flaw characterisation and detection and so lead to more refined life plant assessment.

Phased Array Ultrasound Testing (PAUT) is now a well-established inspection technique and has shown many advantages for a number of industry sectors. Due to easy availability of increased computing power it is now possible to apply new ultrasonic processing techniques based on the Full Matrix Capture (FMC) acquisition method such as, Total Focusing Method (TFM) and Multi-Mode Total Focusing Method (MTFM). This project proposes to independently evaluate these techniques and explore their potential for industrial applications in the power generation.
