What are the basic physical properties of carbon nanotubes?

TWI Frequently asked questions

by Sam Rostami

Carbon nanotubes are light, thermally stable and chemically inert. They can be either metallic or semi-conducting, depending on their structure and the number twists/bends in their tubes.

The typical electrical conductivity of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) is in the order of 10 -4 Ω-cm, and the thermal conductivity is around 2000 W/m.K. The Young's Modulus of SWNTs is in the order 0.6 to 1.4 Tera Pascal.
